I was baptized by Pastor Bernie Payne May 29, 1966 when he was the Interim Pastor at Grandview Park Baptist Church as were my brother's and probably my Mom and Dad too. He and my Dad became pretty good friends. I remember going with my family to the Church in Perry and visiting when the Payne's were ministering there. I'm sure my Dad as well as numerous other Christians who have gone on before were in Heaven to welcome Bernie with open arms. What a day of rejoicing that must have been and I'm sure still is. Thank you dear Lord for Bernie's time here on this earth. For the lives that he touched and the testimony that he was for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May God comfort the family through this time.

Sandy and Family -
We just heard about the passing of Pastor Payne. After 33 years of marriage we still have fond memories of Pastor performing our wedding ceremony. He always joked to us about "tying a strong knot" with our marriage. Doug has many fond memories of your family during the time at the Newton church. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you be blessed with many happy memories.
With Sympathy,
Doug & Nancy Santen

Jon, Kim & Family,
So sorry to hear of Bernie's death but know he is rejoicing in Heaven with our wonderful Lord. A special memory of Bernie was a time when he & Sandy were in our home, as well as my Grandmother who had family in Newton. Bernie visited at some length with my Grandmother and made her feel very special. We are so thankful for the time Jon & Kim ministered to us, and our youth, at First Baptist in Bloomfield, IA.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sandy, Jon, Kim and girls,
We are saddened to hear of Pastor Bernie's passing, but know he is rejoicing to be in Heaven with His Savior. We have such fond memories of the times when Jon, Kim and girls were with us at First Baptist in Bloomfield. We then had the privilege of meeting Pastor Bernie and Sandy, having Pastor Bernie fill our pulpit and host them in our home. Your family holds a special place in our hearts. We pray for comfort as your hearts are broken to lose this godly man.

We wish to express our sincerest sympathies to the Payne family. We will always remember well his service and ministry amongst us for those 15 years or so. To come so far away to our little remote island always impressed me. I remember Mrs. Payne shopping at Lindo's, with her smile and a few words of encouragement. I remember the few one on one conversations we had, when he would not speak about current events, nor the weather, but about the Lord and his word. The sincerest Christian I have ever met. We will meet again as Jesus promised, that where he would be, we would be too. We look forward to seeing him and walking in glory together, and so may we all be comforted by that hope.

To the Payne family. God comfort you in this time of sorrow. We can find comfort in the fact that Pastor Payne is now in heaven with his heavenly father. It is hard to think that you can go on without him but you can. God is with you always to comfort you when you need it. When my mom passes ten years ago, it was very hard to on me. I still have a hard time on mother's day because that is when she died. I feel God with me the most at that time. Praying for God to comfort you at this time and in the future. Love you my friends

To the Family of Pastor B Payne: We grieve with you in the homegoing of Bernie, and yet we rejoice in knowing he is with his Lord and Savior at this very moment. Bernie was an amazing husband, father, grandpa, and pastor, and we are confident he will hear his Lord's words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Our lives have been enriched by knowing him. The influence he has been in your lives is so evident and we are confident you will carry on his legacy to all generations to come. May I Thessalonians 4:13 be of comfort and blessing to you in the days ahead. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We love you all. Ron and Dorothy Gehring & Family
