Obituary of Martha M Godfrey

Funeral services for Martha Godfrey will be Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter, Iowa. A visitation with the family will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Memorials in Martha's name: are being designated to the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Burial will be in the Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Martha, the daughter of George Henry Brown and Pearl Leona Deeter, was born April 12, 1928, in New Providence, Iowa. She attended country school in Jasper County and Baxter High School. Martha was united in marriage to Donald David Godfrey on March 18, 1950, in Montour, Iowa. She had lived in Garwin, Mingo, Rhodes and in Baxter from 1960 until 2004 when she moved to Newton. Martha worked for the Maytag Company for 23 years. She had worked in Department 82, Sheet Metal and Department 91, Inspection. She retired in 1975 as an Inspector. Martha was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter for many years. Martha loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, quilting and sewing. Martha M. Godfrey, 86, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Marilyn Brown, grandson Jack Gray, two sisters and four brothers. Those left to honor Martha's memory include her son Kerry Godfrey of Newton, daughters and sons-in-law Sherry and Richard Hautekeete of Marengo, Iowa and Charlotte and Michael Hall of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, thirteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and sister Inez Slinker of Conrad, Iowa and many extended family and friends.
