Obituary of Michael Leroy Hawkins

Michael L. Hawkins Newton Funeral services and visitation for Michael Leroy Hawkins, 65, of Newton, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at the Newton Moose Lodge. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to the Mike Hawkins Memorial Fund. Mike the son of Burl E. Hawkins and Mary M. Dickinson, was born August 6, 1945, in Newton. He attended Newton Senior High School. Mike was employed by Des Moines Area Community College, Newton Campus, in the maintenance department. On December 7, 1968, Mike was united in marriage with Donna Jean Stevens in Newton. He had devoted his life to his family and friends, and enjoyed fishing and going to the Newton Speedway. He was a member of the Newton Moose Lodge. Mike died Saturday evening, June 25, 2011, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident South of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Donna on January 16, 2004; five brothers and two sisters; two half brothers and two half sisters. Those left to honor Mike's memory include his sister-in-law Dixie Isaac of Grinnell, Iowa; his special friend Ellen Howell of Newton; several nieces and nephews; and his many friends.
