Obituary of Robert LeRoy Jones

Robert LeRoy Jones, the son of Edgar B. and Luella (Downs) Jones, was born November 12, 1922 in Altoona, Iowa. Robert was united in marriage to Helen Stewart on May 1, 1954 in Rock Island, Illinois. They lived in Mitchellville fourteen years before moving to Newton in 1970. Robert worked for the Maytag Company for 30 years. He retired in 1982. Robert was a member of the U.A.W. Local #997 Retirees Union and the Christian Church in Mitchellville. He loved his family, always enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Robert enjoyed fishing, visiting the casino and mowing with his John Deere. Robert died on Monday, May 30, 2011 at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 88 years old. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; his three brothers, Edgar Jones, William Jones, and Oren Jones; his two sisters, Mildred Barrow and Mary Bishop. Robert is survived by his wife, Helen Jones of Newton; his sons, Lloyd (Marg) Jones of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and Johnny (Elizabeth) Jones of Windsor Heights, Iowa; his five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great grandson and his brother, C. Ray (Mary Evelen) Jones of Newton. Funeral services for Robert L. Jones, 88 of Newton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2nd at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
