Obituary of Carolyn Kay Shores

Carolyn Kay Shores, the daughter of Walter and Lucille Meyer, was born February 22, 1949, in Grinnell, Iowa. She graduated from the Montezuma High School in 1967. Carol went on to nursing school and graduated as a registered nurse in 1974. She had worked at Skiff Memorial Hospital, Grinnell Regional Medical Center and retired from Saydell School as the school nurse.

On August 20, 1988, Carol was united in marriage with Delbert Shores, Jr. in Newton, Iowa. Carol enjoyed cooking for her family and for family holidays. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their school events. She and Delbert would take vacations and also enjoyed traveling to car shows, especially Good Guys. They also loved to go dancing to the Blinders band.

Carol passed away March 28, 2024, At Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She was 75 years old. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delbert; a step-son, Chad Shores; and her granddaughter, Stevie Skow.

Those left to honor Carol's memory include her children, Rona Skow-Mallicoat of Ankeny, IA; Nathan (Kenzi) Butler and this son, Max of Waterloo, IA; Brooklyn (Scott) Mallicoat of Ankeny, IA; Brian (Nicki) Shores of Newton, IA, their children, Austin Shores with his son, Devin; Libby Shores, Jerney Shores, with her children, Megan and Rayna; Heather (Paul) Brown, with her children, Meradith Cramer, Taylor Brown and Nina Brown; her brothers, Norman (Rhonda) Meyer of Monticello, IA and Kevin (Angela) Meyer of Omaha, NE; and a sister-in-law, Pat Shores of Newton.

A celebration of Carol's life will be held at a later date.
