Obituary of Irma Marie Merrill

Irma Marie Merrill, 91, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 7, 2011, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Graveside services and burial for Irma will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, in the Dumont Cemetery in Dumont, IA. Father Bernard Grady, of Hampton, IA, will officiate. Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. There is no visitation with the family planned. In LIEU of flowers, memorials in Irma's name are being designated. Irma Merrill, the daughter of Ben and Caroline (Bruening) Schroeder, was born April 27, 1919, in Raeville, NE, and attended rural Raeville schools. On November 16, 1956, Irma was united in marriage with Robert E. Merrill in Omaha, NE. Moving to Newton in 1985, Irma had devoted her life to her family, and was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed her TV, Wheel of Fortune and watching Tiger Woods. Irma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert in 1974; six brothers: Leonard, Elmer, Lavern "Dick", Harold, Alvin and Raymond; and five sisters: Dolores, Mildred, Antionatta, Lorene and Rita. Those left to honor Irmas memory include her daughter Joyce Gamble of Newton; two granddaughters: Mya Vos and Chrissy Gamble; and two great-grandchildren.
