Obituary of Marilou McGinn

Marilou McGinn, the daughter of Domenic and Madeline Delpierre Vieceli, was born March 10, 1928 in Melcher, Iowa. She graduated from Lovilla High School. On July 6, 1955, Marilou was united in marriage with Paul B. McGinn in Davenport, Iowa. Marilou was an elementary school teacher for 38 years touching the lives of many children. She taught locally at Aurora Heights and Berg Elementary schools. Marilou loved her grandsons and attended many of their activities. She enjoyed cooking, volunteering, reading, playing cards and watching her soaps. She was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary. Marilou died on Sunday, December 12, 2010 in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center. She was 82 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charlie Vieceli and her sisters, Adeline Haycock and Jeannie Johnson. Those left to honor Marilou's memory include her husband of 55 years, Paul of Newton; her daughter, Jeanne Birkenholz of Newton; her grandsons, Matt (Kelly) Birkenholz of Bloomington, MN and Tony Birkenholz and Erica West of Houston, TX. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. Friends may call at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home from 1 - 3:00 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet friends from 4 -7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. There will be a public vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Marilou's name to the Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary, Hospice of Jasper County or Sacred Heart Catholic Church and may be left at the church or at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
