Obituary of Florence Isabella Crow

Memorial Funeral services for Florence Crow, 80, will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at the Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, Aug. 17, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorials in Florence's name are being designated to Simpson College or American Parkinson's Disease Association. Florence Isabella Crow, the daughter of Earl and Eleanore (LeHew) Sanderson, was born January 30, 1930 in Osceola, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Osceola Senior High School. She received a teaching degree from Simpson College in Indianola, and went on to teach school in Winterset and Newton, Iowa. While at Simpson, she met Harold L. Crow, and on July 1, 1951, they were married. To this union three children were given: David Allen, Thomas Earl and Elizabeth Ann. She devoted her life to her family and friends, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Florence was very active in community projects and a member of: Girl Scout leader, 4-H Club Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, an officer and president of P.T.A., officer and president of Chapter AO-PEO, officer and president of the Newton Jaycettes, officer of Jasper County Republican Women, Official Board First United Methodist Church, Sunday School Teacher, PI Beta Phi Sorority, American Business Women Association and Co-Founder of the Jasper County Parkinson's Disease Support Group. Florence was the Manager of the Newton office for Manatt's Inc.. She enjoyed needlework of all kinds, music, reading and home decorating. Florence died on Saturday afternoon, August 14, 2010, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold in 1994; and a sister Carolyn Beck. Those left to honor Florence's memory include her sons: David A. Crow of Newton and Thomas E. (Cindy) Crow of Blue Springs, MO; her daughter Elizabeth A. (Scott) Thompson of Mesa, AZ; her grandsons: Blake and Connor Thompson; her brother John (Joann) Sanderson of Emporia, KS; and her many good friends. Visitation with the family will be from 5 - 7pm at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton, IA. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 at the funeral home. With Pastor Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
