Obituary of Colleen F Benson

Colleen F. Benson Colleen Benson, formerly of Newton, passed from this life on Saturday morning, June 25, 2016, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Colleen F. Benson, 86, was born January 22, 1930, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, the daughter of Vernon and Vina (Bell) Sharp. She was a graduate of the Kellogg Senior High. On October 4, 1950, Colleen was united in marriage with Louis Benson near Kellogg. To this union seven children were born: Kathy, Joyce, Bruce, Nancy, Danny, Benny and Lisa. Colleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Colleen was employed by MidWest Manufacturing in Kellogg, thirty plus years. She also was employed by Wal-Mart in Grinnell, for ten years. She was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church in rural Newton. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, playing the piano, all basketball games, especially Lynnville and Montezuma high school, and Iowa and Iowa State games. Colleen is survived by her children: Kathy Merten, Joyce (Mike) Cox, Bruce Benson, Danny Benson, Benny Benson and Lisa (Dan) Cross; her 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a sister Arlene Gifford; and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis; a daughter Nancy Shepard; and a grandson Jason. A time of remembrance and the funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday, one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be left in Colleen's name with her family or a charity of your choosing.
