Obituary of Betty Beatrice Grife

Betty B. Grife Betty passed from this life on Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2016, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Betty Beatrice Grife, 80, the daughter of Ralph James and Alma (Borchert) Breese, was born October 21, 1935, near Germantown, Marion County, Iowa. On February 13, 1954, Betty was united in marriage with Donald Sherman Grife in Melcher. To this union four children were born: Daryl, Shellene, Laura and Barbara. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, she devoted her life to her family, and was employed at Younkers. She enjoyed gardening, camping, wintering in Casa Grande, AZ and visiting casinos and especially casino buffets. She and Don were longtime members of the Hitchhiker RV Club of Iowa. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don on Oct. 29, 2000; a sister Vera Yarbrough (Les), a brother Myron Breese, brothers-in-law: Ralph Grife, Jim Clewell and Wayne Breese and his wife Sherrie. Betty is survived by son Daryl (Esther) Grife of Newton; daughters: Shellene Leavens (Kevin Walker) of Kellogg; Laura (Bryce) Moes of Newton and Barb Hackworth of Newton; seven grandchildren: John & Tracie Neal, Ashley Neal (Eric Dodd), Joe & Jeannie Grife, Sarah & Dan Newell, Kelsey Moes, Reanna & Jeremy Yenger and Liasa Hackworth; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters: Colleen Benway and Leona (Daryl) Ripperger; a brother Marvin Breese; sisters-in-law: Arlene Clewell, Carol Grife and Joan Breese; and her constant companion, her dog TinkerBell. A time of funeral services will be April 7, 2016, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be in the Dallas Cemetery, rural Melcher-Dallas.
