Obituary of David DeVerne Howell

David DeVerne Howell, 78, of Newton, Iowa, passed away at home on June 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 10, 1947, in West Liberty, Iowa, David was the son of Don Howell and Hope Hunt (Howell). He proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne, an experience that remained a source of pride throughout his life.

David loved fast cars, good music, and spending time with those he loved. He lived with quiet strength and a deep sense of loyalty—to his country, his family, and his values.

He is survived by his daughter, Tara Howell (John Lee); his sons, Brendon Howell (Melinda) and David Howell (Danielle Mulbrook); and many cherished friends.

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Retha Howell (Cambridge); his parents; his brothers, Steven and Stewart Howell; and his sister, Melanie Rowen.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Graveside services for David are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty, Iowa. 

Memorials may be designated to Tara Howell to assist with final expenses.
