Obituary of Sandra Lea Loomis

Sandra Lea Loomis, the daughter of William Paul and Doris Maxine (Lust) Smith, was born September 26, 1939, in Newton, Iowa.  She graduated from Mitchellville High School with the class of 1957.

On August 21, 1971, Sonnie was united in marriage with Kenneth E. Loomis.  Sonnie had worked at Skiff Hospital Admissions and for Wellmark Insurance at the Farm Bureau Office.  She was a member of Community Heights Alliance Church and Farm Bureau.

Sonnie died Friday, March 21, 2025, at Edencrest at Riverwood in Des Moines, Iowa.  She was 85 years old.  Sonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Pamela Jo Brodersen; a sister, Sharon Kooyman and a brother, Dennis Smith.

Those left to honor Sonnie’s memory include her daughter, Cindy (Mike) McCoy; her grandchildren, Cody (Kaitlyn) McCoy and Cameron McCoy; a great grandson, Maverick; her siblings, Susan (Bill) Snook, Donald Smith, Douglas Smith, Deb (Bruce) Horton and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the Pence Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A Facebook Live broadcast will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the funeral home Facebook page.  The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be designated to Community Heights Alliance Church.
