Nancy J . Harris

Nancy Main Harris passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Mitchell Village in Mitchellville, Iowa. The daughter of Robert D. and Lelah Rucker Main, she was born June 28, 1963 in Newton, Iowa. She attended Newton schools and graduated in 1981. During her senior year she was employed at Skiff Hospital through the HERO program. She continued to work at Skiff for 31 years. A diagnosis of short-term memory loss resulted in her early disability retirement in 2014.

Nancy was an active participant in many sports (participating in 6 RAGBRAIs) and enjoyed garage sales, thrift stores, and dancing. Over the years, Nancy loved her many cats and her yorkie, Abbey, gave her great comfort in most recent years.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father in 1997 and both maternal and paternal grandparents. Surviving is her mother, Lelah Rucker Main of Newton, and two older sisters, Margaret (Doug) Shafer of Tracy, Iowa and Carol (Gregg) Trease of Newton. Nancy had many nieces and nephews including, Jennifer (Michael) Doyle, Janet (Charles) Smith, Julie (D.J.) Reed, Jolene (Jon) Liebl, Ben (Val) Moore, Heather Moore (Justin Faircloth), Brianne (Dan) Fitzgerald, Sara Ware, and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Her ashes will be interned at Newton Union Cemetery at a later date.

   The celebration of life services for Nancy will be at the Newton First United Methodist Church on, Saturday, June 20, 2020.  Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we are encouraging Social Distancing for those attending.  Please visit Nancy’s obituary page at www.pencefh.com for online condolences, additional obituary info. and please link to (Pence~Reese Funeral Home) Facebook Live streaming of the services Saturday at 11:00a.m.  Her ashes will be interned at Newton Union Cemetery, at a later date.  

Those attending the celebration of life services are encouraged to wear tie-dye or Harley Davidson or cycling or Skiff Hospital clothing. The celebration of life services will be at Newton First United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

Memorials would be encouraged to go to Jasper County Animal Rescue League, Newton Salvation Army's Food Pantry, and Midwest Hospice.
