Obituary of Steven James Borchert

Steven James Borchert May 20, 1947 – January 6, 2019 Steven James Borchert, formerly of Knoxville & Newton, Iowa and Joliet, Illinois, passed away January 6, 2019, after a year-long battle with cancer, surrounded by his family at his home in Pasadena, Texas. He was born May 20, 1947 in Pleasantville to Leland and Norma Borchert. He graduated from Newton High School, Class of 1965. He served his country in Vietnam as a field medic and was awarded two Bronze Stars during his time there. He was married 25 years to Linda Dammeier and blessed with four boys: Jeffery, James, Jason and Jeremy. Steve was employed by Northern Petrochemical in Morris, IL, later transferring to Equistar in Pasadena, TX in 1989, where he lived the rest of life. Steve enjoyed visiting his family in Iowa and Minnesota and traveling with friends from time to time. As an avid John Wayne fan, he enjoyed visiting Winterset, Iowa with his siblings to see John Wayne's birthplace and touring the countryside of covered bridges. But he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, near and far. He was never without a story involving his grandchildren. Steve is survived by his four children Jeffery, James (Erin), Jason (Jennifer), and Jeremy; 11 grandchildren Ethan, Carson, Desiree, Dylan, Bryce, Riley, Ashton, Cainen, Aaron, Hendrix and Aria; his 3 siblings: Gary Borchert, Elizabeth (Mike) Stout, and Deborah Borchert, Mother-in-law Carole Gattenby, Sister-in-law Kim (Joe) McKnight, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and one great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Linda. A funeral service in Pasadena, TX, was January 18, 2019, at Grandview Funeral Home. Local funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2018, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial in the Veteran's Section, Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, Iowa.
