Obituary of Mary Jolene Szczutkowski

Mary Jolene (Redding) Kelso-Davis-Szczutkowski, the daughter of Donald Redding and Arlene (Henderson) Redding Townsend, was born March 16, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended the Newton Senior High School. Mary had worked as a bank teller for many years. She had lived in Charleston, SC, Virginia Beach, VA, Bayonne, NJ and Newton, Iowa. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.
On August 29, 1981, Mary was united in marriage with Edmund R. Szczutkowski in Grinnell, Iowa. After their retirement, Mary and Ed enjoyed their time together and playing bingo.
Mary died on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at her home in Newton. She was 81 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Scott Kelso and William “Bill” Davis; and her brother.
Those left to honor Mary’s memory include her husband, Edmund, of Newton; her son, Jeffrey Davis; her grandchildren, Courtney Davis and Mark Davis; her great grandchildren, Rose Nicole Davis and Ethan Davis and her great-great grandson, Julien James (J.J.) Gomez and her half sister, Betty Horzee.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 15th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to the Hospice of the Midwest and may be left at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
