Obituary of Dale Roy Strohbehn

Dale Roy Strohbehn, 89, formerly of Reinbeck, IA, passed away August 16, 2014, at Park Centre in Newton, IA. Dale was born November 3, 1924, in rural Tama County, IA to Roy and Jessie (Mitchell) Strohbhen. He lived his entire life in Tama County aside from college and army years until he and his wife, Priscilla, moved to Park Centre in Newton in 2010. Dale graduated from Dinsdale High School in 1942, attended Iowa State College, and served in the U.S. Army 1946-47. He attended Monmouth College, IL after his release from the service. He was drawn back to the farm and worked the land, and raised cattle, and hogs for over forty years. Dale met Priscilla Moore on a blind date, fell in love with her and her entire family, and they married a few months later. Together they raised six children, and a foster daughter. Dale was a lifelong member of Amity Presbyterian Church, rural Reinbeck, IA. His church was important to him, and he served in many capacities. He also served in several farm organizations, was School Board President, and a Grant Township Trustee. An adventurous soul, Dale traveled to all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Russia, Australia and New Zealand, South Pacific Islands, and visited many U.S. National Parks, and historic sites. Those left to honor Dale's memory include his loving wife of 64 years Priscilla, of Newton; children Janis Strohbehn of Gladbrook; Rachel (Gregory) Edlund of Lowell, MA; Robert (Teresa) of Brooklyn, IA; Marcia (Mark) McAdoo of Ankeny; Rebecca (Kevin) McKee of Des Moines; and Lora (Scott) Deege of Des Moines. Their twelve grandchildren are Erin Strohbehn, Kristin (Steve) Baty, Mark, and Kelsey Strohbehn; Jonathan, Andrea, and Richard (Chelsea) Edlund; Nicholas Bern, Tyler, Spencer (Abby), and Connor McAdoo; and Nathan Deege. Great-grandchildren include Adelina, Eli, and Cole Baty. He is also survived by sister Eleanor Sandbach, brother Kenneth (Barbara) Strohbhen, and sisters-in-law Harriett Strohbehn, and Cheryl Strohbehn, and many nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosemary O'Connell; and three brothers: Merle, Roger, and Harold Strohbehn. A Memorial Service for Dale will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 19, at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A luncheon with time of fellowship and visitation with the family and friends will follow the service. Burial will be at the Grant Township (Amity) Cemetery near Reinbeck on September 27, 2014.
