Obituary of Andrew Harrison Slycord

Andrew H. "Andy" Slycord, the son of Leonard and Elizabeth (DeKoing) Slycord, was born January 4, 1928, in Knoxville, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Army. On April 14, 1946, Andy was united in marriage with Lillian Oda Slycord in Muscatine, Iowa. Andy worked as a farmer in his younger years. While living in California, he worked as a landscaper. He worked for Sears as a carpenter and during his retirement he drove trucks for Pioneer. Andy enjoyed woodworking, racing and spending time at the casino. Andy died on March 28, 2014 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was 86 years old. Andy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lillian on November 23, 2000, and seven brothers and sisters. Those left to honor Andy's memory include his son, Larry Dean (Shirley) Slycord of Hollister, Missouri; his daughters, Wanda (Mike) Sell of Newton, Iowa and Carol Marie (Allen) Devitt of Mitchellville, Iowa; his eight grandchildren; his fifteen great grandchildren; his two great-great grandchildren and his sister, Maglene Furst of Grinnell, Iowa.
