Obituary of Ruth A. Huggins

Ruth A. Huggins, 82, of Newton, the daughter of Edward and Zada (Finnell) Butler, was born September 29, 1930, in Algona, IA. She was a graduate of the Saint Joseph Academy in Des Moines, Class of 1948. On January 20, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage with Albert Joe Huggins in Des Moines, Iowa. She was employed by News Printing Company, 27 years, retiring in 1994. Ruth devoted her life to her family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was the lector coordinator and one of the first two women lectors. Ruth enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of the Jasper County Women's Bowling Association. Ruth died Sunday evening, April 21, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center, under the care of Skiff Hospice in Newton. Visitation with the family will be held at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, April 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a Vigil service at 7 p.m.. The Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father William Reynolds and Deacon Dan Goetz officiating. Memorials are being designated to; Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Those left to honor Ruth's memory include her children: Cathy & Bob Carter of Newton, Mary & Maury Cunningham of Lincoln, NE and Jim Huggins of Kellogg; her five grandchildren: Cody & Danielle Carter of Encinitas, CA, Spc Caitlin & Sgt Chris McCay of Fort Lewis, WA, Travis Cunningham of Omaha, NE, Jenna Cunningham of Topeka, KS and PFC Nicholas Huggins of Fort Campbell, KY & his fianc Merissa Swinnerton; her great-granddaughter Brooklyn McCay; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and her many friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; and her husband Joe on March 8, 2010.
