Gestures
My big sister, Allene, was as close to a saint as you can get, being a mere human being. Throughout her whole life, I saw first hand how thoughtful, generous, and kind she was to everyone. If someone needed help, she was there performing a good deed, giving a kind word, and/or bringing something yummy to eat. She was a mother hen to her five younger siblings, myself included. When our Mom was working an overnight shift, Allene saw that we were all up, dressed, and ready so that she could drive us to our respective schools. Then, later, she became a mom herself and I watched in total admiration as she took on all the duties of running a household with four kids in tow. In addition, she worked full time at Maytag and, for a period of time, before reporting to work she milked and fed their cows. She was the glue that held our family together, and now we remaining sisters and her beloved children and grandchildren are challenged to take the gauntlet she has relinquished and carry on as she would want us to do. (Poem: We hold you close within our hearts, and there you will remain. To walk with us throughout our lives, until we meet again.) So many memories...so much love. We will miss her terribly.
I remember lots of good memories of all of you when we were growing up! I’m very sorry I didn’t get there to see Aileen & Gordon before they passed. Kenny, Jerry, Kim, & Carla, I am so sorry for your loss! You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I would love to see you guys sometime!
Aunt Allene was one of my favorite people in the world...she will be greatly missed. I have so many great memories of her coconut cream pie, showing me how to milk a cow, and her contagious smile and laugh. She had such a happy spirit and always lifted me up. Wish I could get there, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you there.
