Obituary of Russell James Prins

Russell, formerly of the Amboy and Hinckley, MN areas, left his earthly home on Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017, at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato, and entered his Heavenly Home. Russell James Prins, 82, was born January 19, 1935, near Rushmore, Minnesota, the son of John and Emma (Harms) Prins. He had served his country with the Minnesota Nation Guard, during the early 1950's. On July 26, 1953, Russ was united in marriage with Mary Ann Heidecker, at Mary's parent's home near Montevideo, MN. To this union six children were born: Marilyn, Rose, Carolyn, David, Cindy and Julie. He was a farmer by trade and heart, working on several different farms and for several seed companies. Russ was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed his family, woodworking, cars, was a mechanic and could fix anything. He and Mary were members of the Clover Community Church near Hinckley and also attended the Grace Baptist Church in Mankato. Russ is survived by his wife Mary of Mankato; his children: Marilyn (Gene) Groeneveld of Newton, IA, Carolyn (Marvin) Nelson of Truman, MN, David (Belva) Prins of Waseca, MN, Cindy (Darrell) Friar of Winnebago, MN and Julie (Steve) Nelson of Hinckley, MN; a son-in-law Don (Deb) Domeier of Sleep Eye, MN; his nineteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; a sister Viola (Marlin) Kruger of S. Dakota; and his many good neighbors and friends He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Bob Veneklasen; his daughter Rose Ann Domeier on Jan. 19, 2004; his grandson Leland Nelson on Aug. 9, 1995; and a brother Vernon Prins. A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 10 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, at Grace Baptist Church in Mankato, with a lunch and fellowship time to follow. Burial will be in the Clover Community Cemetery, near Hinckley, at 3:30 p.m., Friday, with a coffee and fellowship time to follow at the Clover Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left with the family or a charity of your choosing. The Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, IA have been entrusted with the arrangements.
