Obituary of Marilyn J. Brodersen

Marilyn Brodersen, the daughter of Valentino and Lena (Maddalozzo) Smaniotto, was born February 12, 1946 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from the Seymour Community Schools with the class of 1964 and began working at the Maytag Company in Newton. In 1967, Marilyn was united in marriage with Larry Brodersen in Knoxville, Iowa. They made their home in Pennsylvania for six years before returning to Iowa. In 1988, she returned to the Maytag Company, retiring from Medical in 2004. Marilyn’s love was spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed nature and her flower garden. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, and most of all, playing with her grandchildren. Marilyn died on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was 70 years old. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Donald and Raymond Smaniotto; a brother-in-law, Ronald Lockman and nephews, Leo Smaniotto and Edward Lockman. Those left to honor Marilyn’s memory include her husband Larry Brodersen; her children, Cindy (Michael) McCoy, Loren (Tim) Buss, Doug (Danielle) Brodersen; her seven grandchildren: Cody, Cameron, Noah, Sloan, Sutton, Jackson and Sawyer; her brother, Gene Smaniotto; her sister, Anna Lockman and numerous nieces and nephews, including Debra Fox. In keeping with Marilyn’s wishes, no service will be held. Memorials may be designated to the John Stoddard Cancer Treatment Center and may be left at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Behrens, Dr. Cookman, her nurses, Scott and Zach and all of the nurses on Powell 3 that took such good care of Marilyn, while she was in their care.
