Obituary of Kathryn Hope Newel

Kathryn Hope Newel, the daughter of Heyo John and Flora Katherine (Schaefer) Berschman, was born July 22, 1921 in Lakota, Iowa. She attended Lakota Public Schools and Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. On June 17, 1944, Kay was united in marriage with Eugene Francis Newel in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kay worked as a teacher for many years. She was a member of the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa and the United Methodist Church in North English, Iowa. Kay died on September 19, 2016, at Accura Healthcare of Newton East in Newton, Iowa. She was 95 years old. Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene on June 16, 1984; a son, Brian Eugene Newel; a sister, Ruth Clapper and a brother, John Berschman. Those left to honor Kay’s memory include her son, Douglas (Linda) Newel of Newton, Iowa; her daughter, Kathy (Scott) Rachel of Sunrise, Florida; her grandchildren, Tad Newel, Ryan Newel, Lindsey Rachel Howard; her five great grandchildren; her brother, Joe (Dorothy) Berschman of Lakota, Iowa and her sister-in-law, Jane Berschman.
