Howard L. Snook Howard passed from this life on Tuesday morning, August 23, 2016, at Careage of Newton. Howard L. Snook, 96, was born August 29, 1919, in rural Newton, the son of Harry and Rosa Belle (Hummel) Snook. He was a lifelong resident of the Newton area, graduating from the Newton Senior High, Class of 1937. Howard had served his country with the US Army, as a Staff Sargent during World War II. On July 27, 1941, Howard was united in marriage with Helen Dunnigan in Richmond, Missouri. He was employed and worked at Snook Brother's Feed & Produce, was Jasper County Auditor, Iowa State Comptroller (Auditor), City of Newton's City Clerk and was co-owner and operator of Snook Brother's Diamond Tubes. He had devoted his life to his family, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Howard was a member of the Newton First Christian Church, Newton American Legion Post #111, Newton VFW Post #1655, Westwood Golf Club, Last Man's Club, Moose Lodge, American Bowling Association and a Life member of B.P.O.E. – Elks. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball, golf and bowling. especially baseball, golf and bowling. Howard is survived by his wife, Helen D. Snook; his daughter, Penny (Larry) Stewart of Newton, granddaughter, Jana Stewart (Mike), Deaton, great-granddaughter, Brette Deaton, granddaughter, Jill Michelle Stewart, & great-grandson, Justin Larry Stewart; his son, Douglas L. (Anita) Snook of Waverly, granddaughter, Brittany Snook (Rich) Olinde and step grandchildren, Tina (Brad) Berg and Mike (Kristin) Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his eight brothers and sisters. A Private Family Graveside service was held at the Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton, and Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. A time of remembrance and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Howard's name to the Newton American Legion Post #111 or a charity of your choosing.
