Obituary of Roger D. Fifer

Roger Fifer the son of Norman Duane and Betty Louise (Smith) Fifer, was born June 26, 1953 in Newton, Iowa. He attended Newton schools and he graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1971. Roger married Deborah Lynn (Bear) Gilgen on December 24, 1980 at the Botanical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Roger worked for the Maytag Company in Newton. He retired from the maintenance department in 2003. Roger enjoyed model aircraft and was active in the Newton Sky Kings Modeling Club where he was a flight instructor. Roger died on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father. Those left to honor Roger’s memory include his wife, Debbie; his son, Joshua; his mother, Betty Fifer Skaggs; his grandchildren, Austin Fifer and Madelyn Fifer and their mother, Ashlee McDonald. Roger died Tuesday, December 29th at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown, IA. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am, Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Newton Union Cemetery. A public Celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Newton, V.F.W. 315 1st Ave W in Newton. Memorials may be designated in Roger’s name and may be left at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
