Biography
Hildred L. Hormann, 98, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Skiff Hospice in Newton, IA. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 9th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by Pastor Gary Marzolf of Newton and Pastor Bea Lebuda of Albion. Interment will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman. Memorials in Hildred's name to the Skiff Hospice or the proposed Newton Village Nursing Home, may be left at the funeral home.
Hildred Lucile Hormann, the daughter of Clifford Roy and Dora Catherine (Hempy) Irons, was born May 21, 1913, north of Montour, IA. She was a graduate of the Montour Senior High School.
On December 24, 1941, Hildred was united in marriage with Calvin Ellis Hormann in Lancaster, MO. They lived on farms near Le Grand, Ferguson and Gilman. She then lived in Marshalltown and the last seven years at Newton Village.
Hildred devoted her life to her husband and family, and helped Calvin on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, and cooking for her family. She was a member of the Hope Methodist Church in Marshalltown, the Good Will Club in Gilman, the Methodist Women at the Gilman Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at the Evangelical Hospital and at a neighborhood day care in Marshalltown.
Hildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Calvin on Sept. 14, 1976; a daughter, Marlene Joy Hormann and her brother, Clayton Clifford Irons.
Those left to honor Hildred's memory include her daughter, Marlys K. (Thomas B.) Leonard of Renton, WA; sons: Dr. Daryl Calvin (Elizabeth R.) Hormann of Monroe and Dale Kevin Hormann (Kathryn A. Logan) of Salem, OR; grandchildren, Dustin (Sara) Riedel, Julie (Christian) Cuarez, Jason (Deb) Hormann, Dr. Rodney (Jackie) Riedel, Joel Hormann, Elizabeth Hormann, Kathryn Hormann and Kevin Hormann; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
